The Red & Black is a 501(c)3 nonprofit, student-led news organization, so we rely on donations for funding our journalism. In the interest of supporting independent student media and photojournalism, we require a small fee to reuse any photography produced by our students while on assignment for The Red & Black. The proceeds are split between our newsroom and the student photojournalist, so it’s a great way for our students to get recognized and paid for their skills and hard work.
The photos agreed upon between you and the photojournalist/photo editor can be used by your entity only in the form of a general licensing agreement. Photos can be shared in an all-media format, (excluding theatrical, including film festival), worldwide, perpetuity, with credit given to the original photojournalist, as our photojournalists and The Red & Black hold the copyrights for our images. Other specific requests can be decided upon between you and the photojournalist, with approval for our newsroom adviser.
The cost is a flat fee of $15 per image.
